I’m pleased to announce that I have been selected as a finalist in the International Trombone Association Alto Trombone Competition. The finals will take place July 4-7 at the Paris Conservatory in Paris, France. The Final Round audition material will be Leopold Mozart’s Concerto.

Thank you all for streaming the concert yesterday! I had 9 viewers online and about 30 people in the audience. Not bad for a show during Thanksgiving Recess and in direct competition with the Yale|Harvard football game (which is a pretty big deal). It’s amazing how easy it was to stream the concert, after dealing with some initial equipment things. Once I figured out what I was using for it, the actual process of streaming it was really easy. It’s got me thinking about using this simulcast process to put on short mini-recitals every few weeks. It would certainly keep me on my toes, and would be pretty interesting. Let me mill this over and I’ll consider doing the first mini-concert this December.

The recital was a success, and a great pleasure. I have some audio/video recordings and as I get them all straightened out I’ll put some clips on the site. Thanks again! Enjoy your Thanksgiving.

Harkness Hall, I will be premiering Erik Nielsen’s new work for trombone Slidebone for trombone solo. The concert will be recorded, and may be live streamed as the date approaches. Come or listen if you can, or if you aren’t able to hear it live, check back in later for a recording of Slidebone.

On Saturday November 19, 2011, I will be performing a solo recital at 2:00pm in Sudler Recital Hall which is located in Willam H. Harkness at 100 Wall Street on Yale University’s campus. On this concert I will present the world premiere of a new work for trombone solo by Erik Neilsen titled “Slidebone.” This three movement work is has been a joy to workshop and it’s been an interesting experience for me as this is my first premiere of an unaccompanied work, which means that I have a lot more creative input on the process than premiering a work for band, orchestra or even chamber ensembles. Unlike other experiences because Erik lives in Vermont we communicate largely through email and I submit recordings of me playing the piece for his review. It’s a fun experience and I would recommend premiering something new to musicians of all ages.

Hopefully I’ll see you on November 19!

Hello all! Just writing in quickly here to tell you about an upcoming solo recital of mine. The recital will be Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 2:00pm in Yale University’s Sulder Hall which is located in Harkness Hall (100 wall street, 06501). Featuring the music of Weber, Marcello, Ewazen, and Hornoff, the recital also marks the premiere of Erik Nielsen’s “Slidebone” for trombone solo. Collaborators include Melody Quah, piano, and the Yale Trombone Quartet. Hope you can make it! Stay tuned for more information.
